• Heptacodium miconioides

This shrub really should be better known. It flowers from approx. August to October, making it a valuable late garden addition. It has lightly scented white, jasmine-like flowers in clusters of seven which is why it's aka seven sons of Zhejiang in China, from where it comes.  The flowers are followed by colourful sepals, extending its garden value.  Eventually, it grows to about 20' tall with a spread of around 15' feet.  It's hardy and deciduous.  We grow it in our own garden and love it. If you visit us in late summer, it's at the very bottom of the church path, on the left, near the wooden gate!
