This half hardy deciduous shrub has many medical benefits attributed to it, but to us it's a charming plant with aromatic leaves and upright panicles of fragrant, lavender-coloured flowers in late summer.  Grows to between 4' to 6' in height and has an open habit.  Plant in full sun in mild gardens, in a sheltered spot.  In colder gardens, plant in a container and take in for the winter.  RHS H3.  Likes well drained but moist soil, chalk, sandy, loam.  2 litre pot.
