This curious monocarpic plant is a real talking point in sheltered coastal gardens or high roof conservatories. The long blue-green leaves eventually droop and hang down, forming a sort of skirt round the plant. When the plant matures - which can take a number of years - it produces green flowered 'branches' which are very attractive. After flowering it dies but not before producing lots of little bulbils to form new plants.
