This rather unusual Japanese shrub has drooping racemes of pale yellow flowers on bare branches in very early spring.  The leaves appear after the flowers have gone and turn attractive bronze and yellow tints in autumn.  Plant in full sun or part shade but out of cold winds, otherwise it's pretty hardy.  It likes moist, acidic well-drained soil.
