• Pereskia grandifolia

Hard to believe it but this is a member of the cactus family, growing rather more like a shrub.  Depending on growing conditions it can be evergreen or deciduous with an upright or arching stem and a bushy growth habit. The flowers are a very pretty and rather showy rose pink, borne in succession in the warmer months. In the right conditions it bears fruit, some say it's edible when fully ripe.  A native of Brazil, this tender plant requires warm, sunny conditions and a minimum temperature of 50F or 10C, though it will tolerate lower levels for a short time.  It must dry out between watering and only water when the soil or compost is obviously quite dry.  In winter it may drop its leaves but should come back.  Makes a good house plant in a sunny room.
